I'm an accidental author, driven by two mutually reinforcing traits: a curiosity stimulated by an interesting story; and a compulsion to share that story. Lightning has struck twice so far, and I ardently wish it had found me sooner in life. Its about to find me again, for the third and probably last time.
I came to research and writing late in life, following an interesting career in international business and a subsequent foray into the realm of international education. And while I have written books on the subject of military and aviation history, I am neither hawk nor dove. I hope merely to tell stories worth reading. About deserving people. Young men in conflict, and the consequences of their service.
I am a life-long conservationist and co-founder of the Inland Northwest Land Conservancy. I built a boat, and now I row it. I cycle. I fish at my little cabin in the woods. And I observe.
I also came late, but not too late, to marriage. My wife Leslie and I have reared a daughter, Rose, and a son, Sam. What would I ever do without her?
